COMMUNITY LEGAL WORKSHOPS

Las Americas hosts several legal workshops every month to help people in our community prepare applications for immigration benefits.

These workshops are either free or low cost and hosted at sites in El Paso that are centers for community life.

Please read the descriptions below and click on the link to fill out a short form to see if you qualify for our services.

Someone from Las Americas will contact you shortly with more information.

monthly asylum workshop

This workshop is designed to help people who are seeking asylum in the United States and have a removal hearing at the El Paso Immigration Court. Our intention is to help people understand the asylum system, learn how to present their case in court, and access services for applying for work authorization, filling out their I-589 application for Asylum, filing their asylum applications ahead of the 1 year filing deadline, and changing addresses with the court. Please note that we do not offer representation for court hearings and individual asylum cases. This is a free workshop.

monthly citizen workshop

This workshop is for individuals who are interested in filing the N-400 application for U.S. Citizenship. In a series of appointments we will assess eligibility for citizenship, organize supporting evidence, and prepare forms for filing. We will also help individuals file Fee Waiver applications when they cannot afford the cost of the citizenship application. We will also  make sure participants have the support and tools they need to successfully navigate their Naturalization interviews. The cost of this workshop is a one-time fee of $100.

This workshop is designed to help people renew their Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, their Legal Permanent Residence Card (Green Card), and their Work Authorization in the United States. Please note that this is only for individuals renewing their benefits and not for first time applicants. Our goal is to help people prepare their applications in one visit and make the process of renewing immigration benefits efficient, supportive, and cost effective. The cost of this workshop is a one-time fee of $50.

Unfortunately, due to an ongoing lawsuit, we have paused our workshops to prepare applications for the Family Unity Parole in Place Program. This benefit is designed to help some individuals who are married to United States Citizens and who have been present in the U.S. for over a decade access an easier path to legal permanent residence. If you think you might qualify please fill out a form and we will get in touch with you about eligibility, share resources about preparing for if and when the process re-opens, and make sure you are informed about future legal workshops.

For community organizations who are interested in partnering with our legal team to provide services or individuals interested in volunteering at our community workshops, please contact Allegra Love at allegralove@las-americas.org.
